what is happening next week for the M/W English classes (101A and 102)

Hey all,
Your Knowledge Garden Proposal is due next week--on MONDAY. As we said in class, you will taking all your writing in response to the 8 questions, and putting it into Canva (or something similar) to make it look like a real proposal.
You dont need to print it out. Instead, you will be sending me a PDF.

As far as the writing goes, please be sure to have LONG paras, and to do Rule of 3 for each Question. Be sure to pull in quotes for all the paras. (you can also bring in facts, stats, charts, etc.)---this will help your paras be longer.

Meanwhile, on the day of the class, first we will meet in class, then we are going out to THE GARDEN-- We will be planting and potting, so pls wear appropriate clothes. (we will provide gloves if you want them.)

If you want me to look at your Canva proposal before it is due, pls send the draft to me via email by this week end. .. .I will give you advice about how it looks, etc. ....

see you next week

Draft day this Wed for the M/W 101A and 102 classes

Hey all,

We are doing another draft day on this Wednesday, the 24th.

What you need to do is to really push paragraph SIZE
and also you need to do Rule of 3, so that we have more content for each of the 8 questions.

Once you have all your written content, the next step is to put it all into Canva, and to start to make it all look cool, like a project proposal.

On Wed, you will email a PDF version of your proposal to me, and you should also bring a laptop if possible so that you can share the PDF with your partners... (you can always just show them in Canva itself...)

Essay #2: Project Proposal for Knowledge Garden----all English classes are doing this...

Essay #2: Project Proposal for Knowledge Garden
For this essay assignment, you have a Design and Research Challenge. The broad challenge is that you are being asked to design and create something that will displayed in the Chabot Knowledge Garden. It will stay in the garden and visitors will be able to learn and benefit from it. You can plant something, or a create a structure, or explore a concept--or something else that we can discuss together.
You should write this essay as if it is a proposal. You may be working together as a team to do the project but you will each be writing your own proposal. Your audience for the proposal and project is Chabot College, City of Hayward government, and City of Hayward residents.
Each proposal question below should be answered in detail. Do not just give a one sentence answer. You should include pictures and design layouts. You will be expected to do a good deal of research around your topic, and to pull quotes from this research to use in your body paragraphs. You can pull quotes from essays we have read, from interviews that you do,  as well as from outside sources, and from the Hayward City materials.)

You will also be expected to interview at least one community member who has knowledge or expertise about your project. You will integrate quotes from their interview into your proposal.

For all the questions below, you really want to write lots of paras (3-4).

  1. Please describe in detail, what exactly is your project?
  2. How does your project relate to or respond to Climate Change and/or the natural environment?
  3. What existing assets in the community can you use to complete your project? Describe in great detail how you will use the assets to execute your project. This can be people, resources, knowledge, etc.
  4. What makes your project innovative? Why did you make the choices you made?
  5. What need is being filled, or what problem is being addressed by your project? What is the issue that you are addressing and why does it matter?
  6. What materials will you need to create your project? Be specific materials and quantity of each.
  7. What steps will it take to complete your project? Please be very specific here about this.
  8. What is your budget for your project? (Please be specific and detailed about what will need to be purchased, including small stuff like nails, etc. It is important that we try to use recycled and upcycled materials as much as possible.)
