HW due for next Wed, Sept 3 in Eng 102

hey there, so you have a couple things that will be due next Wed. Be sure to type and bring hard copy.

1. In class we asked the question: What are 3 fundamental principles that should guide the  education of our children? You should generate 3 different paragraphs that discusses 3 different concepts. And you should pull in outside support or data or quotes for each paragraph. In other words you are going to make these paragraphs look like academic paragraphs. For some guidance on how to build academic paragraphs, pls link to this post and read it.

Typical academic body paragraphs

2. Please read this important essay on Education by Krishnamurti.

The Function of Education

Like we did with the Passion Project movie, pls pick out 3 quotes that you find most interesting and write a paragraph response/discussion for each. You can agree, disagree, relate the quote to something else we have been looking at, etc.

3. Please watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKAloYst7p8

Please write a 2-3 para response to this video, by answering this question: Why were  you asked to watch this video? ( this is not a trick or cute question---lol---I really want you to think about how this video relates to the themes we have been exploring this first 2 weeks of school.)

First Homework for English 102--

These 2 homework assignments are due on Monday, August 25. You should type them.

#1.  To do this HW you need to have watched "The Passion Project. http://vimeo.com/64410009

after you watch it, you are asked to:
Pick out 3 quotes (or sections of quotes) from the movie, and write a paragraph response for each quote. You can agree, or disagree, or critique, or respond, or offer your perspective, or discuss. The idea here is to generate a discussion between you and the movie.

Here is link to full transcript of the Movie:   http://seanchabot.blogspot.com/2014/02/the-passion-project-full-transcript.html

#2. The second part of the HW. Please watch Jeff Bliss video.

After watching it you are asked to write your own Education Rant. This should be 2-3 paragraphs where you offer your strong POV, opinion, about education. You can offer suggestions, you can critique the current state of education. The important thing is that you should have some energy and edge and emotion in your rant. (You have spent over 14,00 hours in school! You must have SOME opinion, lol)

#4 assignment for English 1A: Group Propsal for Project to be built for the Chabot Knowledge Garden

Hey there,

You will be working together in small groups of 3 or 4 to come up with a proposal for something that will be created and built to be placed in the Knowledge Garden. You have a $200 budget, but you are encouraged as much as possible to use repurposed/reused/recycled materials.

The proposal is due Monday, August 11 via email. Early in the Fall semester, the students in the Passion and Purpose classes will read through all the proposals and pick the 5 that they like the best. These 5 will then be built. You will want to treat this proposal as if you are actually a business trying to win the proposal.

Each member of the team is responsible for writing up a part of the project. You should divide up the work and writing equally. You will likely need to do some research and investigating in order to fill out the details of your proposal.

General Information:

Name of your Group:
Who are the group members:
Name of your project:
Contact info (to notify you if your proposal is selected):
Would you be willing to help with the implementation of the proposal?
If so what particular relevant skills do you have?

Each proposal question below should be answered in detail. Please don’t just give a one word or one sentence answer.
