HOW TO MAKE YOUR VIDEOS PUBLIC IN GOOGLE SLIDES

As we know we are putting videos that you have made onto your Google Slides presentations.
The problem is that the public cannot see these videos unless you do some steps to make it happen.
Eric was kind enough to make this very helpful video that shows how to do it:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CWeMnLM1zVr1pqxybSKuTEbDyNbwPeaR/view

You can also follow the written directions below:
  1. Go to your Google Drive on your computer
  2. Select the video that you want to make public and right click it-- a menu pops up
  3. Click on “SHARE” -- this takes you to a new screen
  4. Click on “ADVANCE” button on bottom right of menu--this takes you to a new screen
  5. Click on blue “CHANGE” button--this takes you to a new screen
  6. Select “On -Public on the web”
Video can now be watched by anyone.

Of course, these steps Must be done with each video separately. For example, If you have 3 videos in your presentation, all 3 videos need to be changed.

Latest advice on how to do the GOOGLE SLIDES presentations

hey all,

by now if you shared with me your Google Slides link, I have sent back my thoughts and advice that will help you improve your draft. If you have NOT shared the doc with me, its mandatory that you do so. I absolutely need to see your progress, and offer advice.  Send it TODAY! Please remember, this website is going to be very public, so we all need to do our absolute best. This is DUE on Friday, April 24.  with that in mind, I am seeing some trends in the projects so far that we need to sure to fix:

1. Your project cannot have YouTube videos. Instead, YOU will shoot the video and upload into your slides.

2. Your project should not be pulling tons of pictures off the internet. Instead, YOU will shoot the pictures and upload into your slides. This will help make the project personal to you, which is a crucial feature  of this.

3. You need to actually DO the activity you are talking about. For example, If you are telling us how to cook something, you need to actually cook it. Then, of course, you are able to shoot pics and video.

4. Your project is not theory, lol, its actually YOU doing what you are telling others that they should do! In this way your project is unique, and personal to YOU.

5. for the writing that you do for the 7 questions, it will be inserted into the slides of course. (a couple people thought the writing was a different assignment. this is not the case.)

6. for the writing, you need to write 1-2 paras (at minimum) for each question. You must not do Bullet Points.

7. When you are doing Q 5, which is the STEPS to do your project, be sure to slow that down... it will take several slides probably to explain it clearly..... dont put all the steps on one slide
lets do this.. dont forget to copy and paste your finished project into a new slides doc in order to translate it!

Staying IN: Hayward

For this assignment, we are working with the City of Hayward to create positive responses and solutions to the COVID-19 crisis.

As many of you have experienced and stated, we are all being inundated by reports, updates, automatic messages, and negative headlines.  This kind of messaging is fair and appropriate given the circumstances we are experiencing. However, we want to provide positivity, build community, and find ways to support one another. The SIC team is working with the City of Hayward to create a website that will be promoted to community members.
The website is called “Staying IN: Hayward.”
This website will include YOUR ideas for responding to this crisis, and will provide “Hayward-esque” activities people can do from their homes.

Your assignment:
Using Google Slides, you will create an activity/lesson/guideline that we can share with the community.  Your goal is to show the community or teach them how to do this activity. There are a lot of lists circulating online, on social media, etc. on tips for staying healthy, keeping occupied, and entertaining yourself.  We want our activities to be unique from the generic ones that are being circulated. We also want them to be much more DETAILED. Your activity can be in any of the following categories or an entirely new category:
  • Food: recipes/ cooking techniques/etc
  • Gardens / outdoor nature
  • Kids’ activities
  • Health and wellness
  • Activism
  • How to … (here are some examples)
  • --home improvement
--Make a movie and embed it in WIX
    --Professional looking Instagram post
    --Operate google slides and/or Canva
    --Do magic
  • Pets
  • Arts and crafts
  • Organizational tips
  • Deep cleaning homes
  • Creating a schedule/routine
  • How to be a successful student during this crisis
You will create your document in Google Slides.  You should embed video, pictures, graphs, etc.You can include images from Canva if you like. The goal is to make your document fun, colorful, positive!

Of course you will need to do WRITING for this assignment. Here are the questions for you to answer (FULL big paragraphs...not just one sentence answers)

  1. Introduction (tell us who you are, how you are doing, etc)
  2. Why did you pick this activity?
  3. What’s your interest or expertise in it? (you don’t HAVE to be an expert)
  4. How does your activity respond to the current situation?
  5. What are the specific steps involved? (Don’t be vague--we need details about how to do it)
  6. What materials are needed?
  7. How does your activity relate to Hayward / Bay Area culture or community?
This next guideline is very important: Your activity must be presented in English AND in  one other language. If you do not speak another language, you should ask a friend to translate it for you. You will be turning in TWO different Google Slides documents. One in English and One in another language.

In addition to creating your Google Slides documents, you are also asked to promote the “Staying IN: Hayward” website on your own social media platforms.

I will be sharing some essays for you to read to give you some background and context for this assignment. These will be in another post/email that I will be sending soon.

This assignment is going to have a VERY FAST timeline for getting it done. It is due on Friday, April 24 for all of my English classes.
You will all share a first Draft of this assignment on Friday, April 17th.
