Laramie Project—Paper #4—Summer 2015

Laramie Project—Paper #4—Summer 2015

One of the central themes of the play revolves around community, and its role in this terrible crime. For this paper you are asked to consider what should be the responsibility of a community in shaping or influencing or taking responsibility for the actions of its individual members.

This paper is a Position Paper. You are taking a side and arguing it. The question you are considering is: What is the responsibility of the community when it comes to the actions of its individual members?

Of course this is a big question, so to answer it you will need to generate 3-4 smaller questions, which you will then do Rule of 3 on….that way you will end up with 9-12 body paras.  You will also need to do a 3 (or 4) para intro.

In arguing your position, keep in mind that you should be sensitive to the other side of the argument and that you may need to offer concessions to the other side’s point of view.

You will need to pull quotes from Laramie Project and Two Towns of Jasper (which we will watch next week) as well as any outside sources that you find helpful.

The paper is due Monday August 10 via email. Send to smcfarland@chabotcollege.edu AND TO mcsean10@hotmail.com

Draft day is Thursday Aug 6.

Page minimum is 6…

Home work for Tuesday: generate 3-4 smaller questions that you think will help you address the larger question. Bring these 3-4 smaller questions to class on Tues. ALSO, pick ONE of your smaller questions and do a rule of 3 on it, Creating 3 body paras that you will share in class on Tues.
