HW for Tues nite English 1 class... due on the 22nd

Hey all, first of all, it is really important to keep working closely with your partners, as you do your individual work....

For next week, we are doing these questions:

7. How will people interact with your Community Garden?
8. What materials will you need to do create your project? Be specific about type of materials and quantity of each.

For these 2 questions, you will answer them in relation to the 3 main concepts that you are writing about in Q #1. SO, that will make 3 paras for each of these Q's

In addition, you will each answer this question:

9. What community members do you know who might be value added to your project? Please give a biography of each person.

Here is a link to the video we watched about the guy in Florida

HW for Tues nite English 1 class--due on Oct 15

hey all,  as we said in class, one key to this project is for each of you to come up with 3 main features of your garden. That will make 9 main features for the garden. You should work with your team to decide who will be writing about which feature--so you dont have repetition.

SO, once you have decided on your 3 features, you should revise and re-do Q1..... When doing Q1 you should be very specific and detailed about the feature you are writing about. You dont want to talk about what need is being met, or why the feature is cool or innovative. You will do that later in Q4 and Q5.

Once you revise Q1, now you will indeed do Q4 and Q5. For these questions you should refer back to the 3 features that you wrote about in Q1....

That will make you have 9 total paras for next week. ......as a TEAM, that will make 27 paras.. which is totally bad ass.

HW due for M/W English 1 classes... this is due WEDNESDAY, Oct 9. ...

Hey all,

here is the HW that is due tomorrow, WEDNESDAY, Oct 9. ...

you have one Q to do ...Q5 from the essay assignment...pls do rule of 3 on it.... (making 3 paras)

What needs are being filled, or what problems are being addressed by your garden?

HW for ALL English 1 classes, AND English 7....

Hey all, first off, pls note that the community garden project assignment is posted on this website below. You should all be in groups now, and you should plan to have frequent contact with your team over the next weeks.

Here is the HW that you will EACH do. (everybody on the team will do their own work for this HW.)

to give you some background on the Hayward work we have been doing, pls read this article:

Once you read it, pls answer this question: What is your opinion about doing this kind of community outreach? (do rule of 3, to make 3 paragraph response.)

Your next HW involves getting started on the actual questions from the assignment. You are doing these 3 questions.
  1. Please describe in detail, what exactly is your community garden project?
  2. What will you be growing? You should include WINTER crops. Why did you decide on the plants that you picked? (You should give a rationale for each thing you you are growing.) (you dont need to talk about spring crops at this time.....)
  3. What are the main visual and interactive features of your garden?
for each Q you need to do AT LEAST Rule of 3....you need to write a LOT....

also, please remember that THIS FRIDAY, Oct 4....there is a special workshop being held in our garden. You will learn a lot of stuff that can help you with Q2....(along with other stuff too! ) Bagels from 930 to 10..then the workshop from 10 to 12....you need to be there ! ....if you cant make it, someone from your team needs to be there....

Community Garden Group Project Proposal for English 1 and 7

For this 2nd essay assignment, you have a Design Challenge. The broad challenge is that you are being asked to design a community garden that will be situated somewhere in Hayward.
You should write this essay as if it is a proposal. Your audience for the proposal is the City of Hayward, and local community members who live near where you want to situate your garden.
Actual business/design proposals have a number of different features. We will be talking about what these are. You should include some of these business proposal features in this proposal, in addition to answering the questions below.
Even though you might not use quotes in a real proposal, for this essay you will be using quotes in your body paragraphs. (They actually will probably help the persuasiveness of the proposal. You can pull quotes from our 2 books, as well as from outside sources, videos, and from the Hayward City website materials.)

Make the garden project be WOW! In other words, surprise yourself. Surprise your audience. NO idea is too weird. Your goal is to make this the coolest community garden possible.
You have a $7,000 to $10,000 budget, but you are encouraged as much as possible to use repurposed/reused/recycled materials.
Each proposal question below should be answered in great detail. Please don’t just give a one word or one sentence answer.   You should include pictures, maps,  and design layouts to help with each question as much as possible. When possible, you should for sure do Rule of 3  in answering the questions.
  1. Please describe in detail, what exactly is your community garden project?
  2. What will you be growing? You should include WINTER and SPRING/SUMMER crops. Why did you decide on the plants that you picked? (You should give a rationale for each thing you you are growing.)
  3. What are the main visual and interactive features of your garden?
  4. What makes your community garden innovative?
  5. What needs are being filled, or what problems are being addressed by your garden?
  6. Where in Hayward do you imagine your project will be situated? Why did you pick this spot?
  7. How will people interact with your Community Garden?
  8. What materials will you need to do create your project? Be specific about type of materials and quantity of each.
  9. What community members do you know  who might be value added to your project? Please give a biography of each person.
  10. What is your budget for your project? (Please be specific and detailed about what will need to be purchased. You will need to do research to determine costs, and amounts. For example, how much irrigation you will need.)
  11. Please include drawings, pictures, or plans for your project.
  12. Anything else you would like to add or say about your project?
Your proposal should include a cover letter, budget page, resume of you and your other team members-- along with the info in the questions above.
The Page minimum is 15-18 pages of writing. (The pics, etc. will make it longer of course.)
When the project is done being written, you will print a hard copy of the proposal. It will cost some money to make it look professional. You will need to decide how you will bind it, and what kind of paper you will use, etc. For Sure it must be in full color. You will also be emailing me a PDF of your community garden project proposal.
I will talk with each class about due dates for the project....
