Homework assignments for the once per week classes. (tues nite and Wed nite)--Last hours of ancient sunlight...

Welcome to our book! To get introduced to it, here is a set of activities/questions for the classes that meet once a week. This Homework is due on the next class. You are doing 3 main things, Pre-Reading, Reading, and Writing.

Pre-Reading activities are ones that help introduce you to a book, and help you begin to get an early sense of it. Here are 4 Pre-reading questions:
1. What does this book seem to be about? (one typed para.)
2. How does the book seem to be organized? (check Table of Contents for some guidance around this.)
3. How many illustrations/graphs/pics does the book have? (Hint: it is not a big #!)
4. Once the book ends, what are some things that come after?

Reading: Please read the Forward, the Introduction, and then pages 5-83.

Writing: You have 3 questions to do after you read.
1. What seems to be the TONE of the book at the start? (Tone is like the feeling that the book gives off--is it funny, or somber, or aggressive, or dry, etc.....there may be a mix of tones.) (one typed para.)
2. As you read the early parts of the book, what are some things that you did not know about? (one typed para.)
3. What are some things that you DID know about? (1-2 paras)

You have 6 questions all together. Pls print out the homework and bring to class on  Tuesday, March ll for tues class, and Wednesday, March 12 for the Wed nite class.

Second HW assignment. Please watch this movie, "A Crude Awakening" It will form an important part of our next essay, essay #2.  What you will want to do is to keep track of quotes that you find especially interesting. Next class bring in the 5-7 most interesting quotes, along with a paragaph discussion for each one, telling us what or why you find it interesting.

By Thursday, March 6, I will have posted what the #2 essay will be about. There will likely be some Homework related to that, in order to get started on the essay.
